No matter what form they take, the two most important parts of a management plan are understanding an owner’s goals and defining the resources. Understanding ownership goals starts with good client-forester communications. Defining the resource requires an appropriate inventory.
Every piece of property cannot meet every goal of ownership, but proper guidance and input can help either adjust ownership goals or define the steps it will take to make them happen.
We prepare our management plans using GPS-enabled data collectors and publicly available resource information. From importing property shape file information into the USDA Soil Survey website to generate a site-specific soils report, to utilizing the hydrography data available through Cornell University, to accessing the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation’s multiple resource web portals, we pride ourselves in understanding all of the resource concerns of a project area.
Once all these factors and more have been considered, a schedule for activity implementation becomes the guiding force for the management plan.
