Our GIS services offer real-time mapping capabilities, allowing for project-specific map creation that includes trail location, tax map boundary projection, and area calculation, all tailored to provide effective mapping solutions.

Our company leverages GIS services, desktop software, and internet resources to provide mapping solutions that create comprehensive maps. These maps can identify resources from the buffer strip around environmentally sensitive areas to a landowner’s favorite tree stand. Utilizing real-time mapping, we ensure that clean, clear, and accurate maps are key to any successful harvest operation.

The goal of a productive management plan is to create a detailed map. By utilizing GIS services, desktop software, GPS field collected data, geo-located sample points, and internet resources, our company develops clear and concise mapping solutions. These maps serve as the foundation for effective planning and forestry activities, including real-time mapping applications.
At Keister Consulting, Inc., we integrate advanced GIS services and mapping solutions into a traditionally “off-the-grid” profession—bringing greater accuracy, efficiency, and clarity to every forestry project.
All inventory plots are geo-located, providing real-time mapping insights into a woodlot’s current condition. This data is seamlessly incorporated into management plans, treatment prescriptions, and timber sale maps, ensuring informed, site-specific decision-making.
Our GIS tools also document key landscape features such as watercourses, seeps, trails, and even a landowner’s favorite hunting stand—details that help create a complete picture of the property.
We regularly use our GIS services and mapping solutions to assist landowners with NRCS grant documentation, helping ensure project locations are accurately mapped and compliant before final reimbursements are released.
While GIS and mapping technologies continue to evolve rapidly, we understand that successful application depends on knowing their capabilities—and their limits. Our expertise ensures that technology serves the land, not the other way around.

In 2017, Susan Keister and Rob Wink, Ph.D., developed a continuing education course, “GIS Technology for Logging Professionals,” with support from New York Logger Training, the Empire State Forest Products Association, and the Workforce Development Institute. This course explored how GIS services and real-time mapping can enhance operational efficiency in the logging industry. They later shared their insights on these innovative mapping solutions in an article published in Northern Logger magazine.
